Float Trips

For anglers seeking unpressured waters, solitude, and beautiful scenery, a guided float trip offers opportunities that can't be replicated while wade fishing.  Whether chasing smallmouth bass on the James, South Fork of the Shenandoah, or New River or trout on the Jackson or Smith River, a float trip allows anglers to see about 7-10 miles of these historic waterways.  Due to the lack of public access on these rivers, a boat allows us to fish areas others simply can't reach on foot.  Because of the advantages of fly fishing from a drift boat, float trips are often the choice of expert anglers, but are also a great option for beginners.  Blue Ridge Fishing Adventures holds permits with Jefferson and Washington National Forests, giving our clients even more access than many of the other guides in the area.

Wading trips give anglers a chance to put on a pair of waders and physically be in the river.  While there are options to wade fish during the summer months, the best time of year for this style of trip is during the state's trout stocking season between October and June.  Virginia boasts 3,500 miles of trout streams, 2,900 miles of which have wild trout and 600 miles of stocked trout.  Wading one of these western Virginia trout streams is all about dissecting each riffle, run, and pool, one step at a time.  You also have the opportunity to explore the bugs and other forage items that live beneath the surface, while enjoying the beauty of Virginia's mountains.

*The ability to hike and maintain balance on a slick, uneven river bottom is a requirement for all wading trips.
