The end of trout stocking season is fast approaching. There is still time to get out and enjoy, but by mid June the options to target trout will be greatly reduced. Blue Ridge Fishing Adventures offers float trips on both the Jackson River and Smith River tailwaters. These are great year round trout fisheries if you want to get your fix during the warmer months.
We have continued to get rain throughout the spring. This has helped keep the mountain brook trout streams flowing at great levels. There have been consistant hatches throughout the day. Keep your eyes out for Hendricksons, Sulfers, Drakes, and Black Caddis through mid June. If these good water flows persist, you can look forward to some great terrestrial dry fly fishing all summer.
On to the main event for this time of year! The Smallmouth Bass seem to have had a successful spawn and are on the prawl. Topwater has been great in the mornings, especially throwing frog patterns to the banks. Streamers and crayfish patterns will work midday as the bass get skiddish from the overhead sun. The dragonflies and damselflies have started to appear. Once there are a lot of them present, the topwater fishing should be good throughout the day.
Thanks for stopping by today and we hope Blue Ridge Fishing Adventures can take you to enjoy some excellent Virginia fishing soon!
