It is transition time here in Virginia. There are probably only a few more weeks left to target Smallmouth Bass and other warm water species before they head into their deeper winter lies. Hoppers and poppers are still working at times, but slow moving baitfish and crawfish have been more productive.
The trout season is about to really get going though. The state is going to start stocking on October 1, and the year round trout fisheries are still fishing really well. Water levels are great and as night temperatures start to fall the trouts' metabolism is much higher during the day. Keep an eye out for caddis and terrestrials will be productive until we have the first couple freezes.
I hope I can take you out trout fishing this fall or winter. Dates are booking quickly, so give me a call for availability soon!
